The Lotz House welcomes Home Another Matilda Lotz painting

(Franklin, Tenn.)—December 13, 2011---The historic Lotz House museum in Franklin Tenn. has been gifted another painting by the late artist, Matilda Lotz, who grew up in the historic home. This is the fifth painting acquired in the house collection in only three years of being open.

According to Lotz House Executive Director J.T. Thompson, this is the second Matilda Lotz painting donated by Nora King and her family. King is a direct descendant of Johann Albert Lotz, the man who built the historic Franklin home. The piece was shipped from Martinez, Calif., where Lotz moved his family following the Civil War.

This piece, completed in 1887, features the famous race horse, Harry Wilke. Matilda Lotz was around 29 years old at the time she completed the piece. The painting is still in its original frame, and was professional conserved during the last several months by local art conservator Sherry Oates from Avalon Studios in Nashville. It will be officially unveiled this weekend to Lotz House Foundation members, and will then be on display.

Thompson said, “It is an incredible honor to continue receiving historic items associated with the Lotz family. Each new piece we receive brings us closer to understanding and accurately telling the story of this incredible American family. Both Matilda’s work and life story truly move people.”

Painting will be officially unveiled on Sunday, December 18, 2011.

The Lotz House is located at 1111 Columbia Avenue.
